Americans for Huntington's Initiative

The Americans for Huntington's Initiative Foundation was formed in 2007 to support families diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. Huntington’s Disease, also known as HD, is a degenerative brain disorder that causes spontaneous body movements, diminishes the affected individual’s ability to walk, talk, think, and reason. Eventually, the person with HD becomes totally dependent on others for his or her care. The final result is a slow, painful death. Huntington’s Disease is hereditary. The children of parents diagnosed with HD have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. While research is ongoing, there is no cure or definitive treatment.

The mission of the Foundation is to serve as a resource for the Huntington’s Community at large by providing services to those who have been diagnosed or at risk of developing HD, their families and the communities that serve them. Our commitment includes supporting research, education and testing to limit the passage of the HD gene from generation to generation. We have over 50 Years of Personal Experience with the social, medical and day to day issues associated with Huntington's Disease.

How you can help!

We are graciously asking for a variety of donations that will enable us to fulfill our mission. The donation of any used vehicle, for example, could be used to transport patients stricken with HD to and from important medical appointments. Antiques, real estate, bequests, valuables, cash donations and volunteers are the welcome resources that will make it possible for us to meet the needs of those whose lives are affected by Huntington's Disease.
